4A Region I District 2 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Eastlake moved up to 925 from 980 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 2. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Ysleta 35-14.
Del Valle extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Hanks, 22-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Eastlake's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. DAVID ARMENDARIZ threw for 223 and three touchdowns and FERNIE MARQUEZ had 108 yards receiving. On the ground ARMENDARIZ chipped in 219 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Emilio Noriega of the Knights is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1212. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, Del Valle's Andy Rubio has rushed for 602 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hilario Soto. The Horizon star has 22 catches for 507 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 2 this week will be when Canutillo takes on Hanks. At the moment, the Eagles are in fourth, while Jeff Cleveland's team is in third.
