The Serrano Diamondbacks are taking a road trip to face off against the Hesperia Scorpions at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Serrano had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Burroughs on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks put the hurt on the Burros with a sharp 3-0 victory. The Diamondbacks not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since August 21st (when they won 3-0).
The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 26-24.
Zoey Blanchard was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had nine digs and two aces.
Hesperia extended their home winning streak to 11 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Emily Ventroni. The Scorpions came out on top against Oak Hills by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday with plenty of help from Ventroni, who had 15 digs and five aces. She has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last four times she's played.
Hesperia walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the third set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20.
Hesperia's win came from a few key players Serrano will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Deziree Mendoza, who had 13 digs and one assist. Those 13 digs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kitana Tapopo, who had ten digs and one assist.
They weren't the only good server: Hesperia was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in four consecutive games.
Hesperia's record is now 21-1. As for Serrano, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Serrano might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Hesperia in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Diamondbacks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
