Western Harnett hasn't had much luck against Union Pines recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Western Harnett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Triton hit Western Harnett with a six-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Hawks, falling 14-5.
Faith Woodard made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Alex Johnson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Union Pines put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Overhills with a sharp 12-2 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Kaitlyn Blue made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kileigh Cameron, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Stein, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Union Pines kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Union Pines' record is now 14-0. As for Western Harnett, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Western Harnett has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Union Pines struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Western Harnett suffered a grim 20-7 defeat to Union Pines in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
