Mt. Eden is a perfect 3-0 against Irvington since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mt. Eden Monarchs will be playing at home against the Irvington Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Mt. Eden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Mt. Eden fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Kennedy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 8-7.
Annelise Burgos spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She also put up two walks, which were her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Jasmine Cruz and Kealani Temoche stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cruz scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-6, while Temoche went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases Cruz has posted since back in March of 2024. Amaris Ruiz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Irvington entered their tilt with Deer Valley on Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Wolverines 17-6. Considering the Vikings have won three games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ixayana Vera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Maya Briones was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Five bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Diya Vacin, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Irvington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Irvington's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Mt. Eden, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mt. Eden hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Irvington struggles in that department as they've averaged .550. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Mt. Eden's way against Irvington in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Mt. Eden made off with a 15-3 win. Does Mt. Eden have another victory up their sleeve, or will Irvington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
