Basketball Recap: Castle View Comes Up Short

Castle View lost against Mountain Vista back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Castle View Sabercats lost 80-54 to the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Sabercats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 11th).

Despite the loss, Castle View still got an impressive performance from Blake Graham, who posted 20 points. Those 20 points gave Graham a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bubba Wyatt, who earned seven points.

Even though they lost, Castle View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Cal Baskind continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain Vista, going 10 for 16 en route to 25 points. Baskind's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Oliver Junker was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Castle View has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Mountain Vista, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Castle View will venture away from home to face off against ThunderRidge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Castle View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season. As for Mountain Vista, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles take on the Highlands Ranch Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mountain Vista's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
