If the Morning Star Academy Mustangs were riding high off their 64-5 takedown of the East Moline Christian Eagles on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Morning Star Academy took a hard 51-33 fall against Faith Christian on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Morning Star Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 493rd in Iowa, while Faith Christian is ranked 162nd in Illinois).
Despite the defeat, Morning Star Academy saw an underclassman step up: Violet Jewell dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Jewell hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Addison Smith, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Morning Star Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Faith Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Morning Star Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Galesburg Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Faith Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against South Beloit at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
