It was a good run, but the Bernalillo Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Shiprock 40-36.
Bernalillo's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Calabaza, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Valdez, who scored 14 points.
Bernalillo now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Shiprock, their win ended a 13-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6.
Bernalillo's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Hope Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Hope Christian is ranked 60th, while Bernalillo is ranked 70th). Shiprock won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Manzano at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Manzano is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
