Winfield has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the El Dorado Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Winfield is ranked 273rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 285th).
Winfield proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 25) but on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Buhler 44-41.
Christian Moree was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with four blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Winfield's points. Kellen Gibson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, El Dorado's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 13th straight loss. They took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buhler. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
El Dorado might have lost, but man, Logan Garner was a machine: he scored 27 points. Garner is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 27 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Greene, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Winfield's win bumped their record up to 2-11. As for El Dorado, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-13.
Tuesday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Moree and Garner. Moree has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 17.8 points, 2.8 blocks, and 6.5 rebounds. For his part, Garner has averaged 20.5 points, 1.2 steals, and 2.4 assists.
Everything came up roses for Winfield against the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 81-46 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
