3A District 4 recap October 22, 2013
Cade Patterson of Ruidoso ran for the longest rushing play in 3A District 4 this season against Centennial last week. Patterson scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 67 on the day as his team fell to the Hawks.
Lovington fell to Goddard 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Ruidoso's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Patterson threw for 131 and 1 touchdown and Parker Johnson had 105 yards receiving. On the ground Patterson chipped in 67 yards. Hayden Frierson helped Ruidoso's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
Patterson was the most successful running back in the league this week. Teammate Johnson added to the ground attack by rushing for 58 yards.
Ruidoso's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Patterson has thrown for 1,094 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 47 catches for 882 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Ruidoso takes on second place Portales. Last week, Kief Johnson's team lost to Centennial, while Portales fell to Roswell.
The Warriors fell 21-20 to Aaron Ocampo's team in the closest game of the week. Patterson was a bright spot for Ruidoso, as he in the loss.
