Cayden Giles made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Maple Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payson only posted a batting average of .263.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salem Hills). They blew past Carbon 16-6 on Thursday.
Like Maple Mountain, Salem Hills also got a great game from a two-way player: Colton McGhie. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. McGhie was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Salem Hills' win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Maple Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Maple Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Salem Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Maple Mountain's way against Salem Hills when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Maple Mountain made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Skyhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
