Two dominant  signal callers in  Maxwell Bowers and  Gary Merrill are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The St. John the Baptist Cougars will challenge the St. Anthony's Friars at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Given the Friars' advantage  in MaxPreps' New York football rankings  (they are ranked eighth, while the Knights are ranked 82nd), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
 It was another big night for  Merrill, who rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes. With that strong performance,  he is now averaging an impressive 114.7  rushing yards per game.
 Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Anthony's was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 259  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
