The Damonte Ranch Mustangs put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 63-49 win over Monte Vista Christian. Given Damonte Ranch's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Nevada, while Monte Vista Christian is ranked 243rd in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jiro Basabas, who scored 21 points. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeriah Macias, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Angel Martinez, who scored 9 points along with 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Martinez hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Jack Ryan, who scored 9 points along with 12 rebounds.
Damonte Ranch's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Monte Vista Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Damonte Ranch's road trip will continue as they head out to face Marina at 11:30 a.m. on December 9th. One thing working in Marina's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Monte Vista Christian, they will take on Greenfield at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Greenfield is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
