2A-2 Region II District 8 recap October 29, 2013
Cooper extended the longest winning streak in 2A-2 Region II District 8 this week by beating Edgewood, 52-28. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Rivercrest fell to Chisum 61-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Clarksville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. TJ Tinnell threw for 198 and 4 touchdowns and Gemack Woodberry had 108 yards receiving. On the ground Trevin Dockins chipped in 49 yards. Dockins helped Clarksville's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 54 yards.
Dockins was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 49 yards on 2 carries as the Tigers topped Como-Pickton. Jacqualein Coleman also contributed to the rushing game with 41 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Jackson Tyner and Carlos Bolton, the Bulldogs have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Tyner is tops in the league in passing with 1,463 yards, while Bolton has rushed for 1,012 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Clarksville's Woodberry, with 690 yards on 33 catches.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Edgewood and Alba-Golden face off next week.
A big matchup in 2A-2 Region II District 8 this week will be when Ryan Simmons' team takes on the Panthers. The Bulldogs are currently in second, while Alba-Golden is in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when Edgewood and Gary Schultz's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 343 this season, while the Panthers have scored 215. Edgewood scored 28 points last week as it lost to Cooper.
The Mustangs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 61 points on the Rebels.
