The Sissonville Indians will face off against the Lincoln County Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sissonville is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since April 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Point Pleasant by a score of 7-5.
Lydia Ellis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season. Allison Jarrett was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lincoln County faced Scott in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Panthers never let the Skyhawks get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Arien Cooper made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camdyn Mckinney, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbie Jeffers, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Lincoln County and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Sissonville, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sissonville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Lincoln County struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sissonville came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincoln County in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
