Monte Vista is 2-8 against Sanford since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Monte Vista Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Sanford Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. Hopefully Monte Vista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Saturday.
Last Saturday, Monte Vista rang in the new year with a 52-44 win over Ignacio. The win made it back-to-back wins for Monte Vista.
Monte Vista can attribute much of their success to Alex Marquez, who scored 20 points, and Azariah Hurtado, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hurtado has scored all season. Alex Gonzales was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, Sanford beat Mancos 58-47 on Saturday.
Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Sanford, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Monte Vista came up short against Sanford when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 45-36. Can Monte Vista avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
