The high school football season in Kentucky came to a close over the weekend with championship games in all six classifications played at multiple sites. Trinity (Louisville) was among the winners, dominating Male (Louisville) in the Class 6A championship game and finishing No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 computer rankings.
That victory, coupled with a 10-0 record and consistent excellence this season, makes Trinity the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of Kentucky.
Against Male, senior running back Brad West ran 19 times for 96 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for Trinity. Armon Tucker helped the Shamrocks chip away on the ground with 19 carries for 56 yards.
Defense has been the story in recent weeks for Trinity, which notched its third consecutive shutout in the championship game victory. The Louisville powerhouse allowed just 48 points all season.
Trinity's quest for its 27th state title began Sept. 11 with a 44-7 thrashing of perennial Ohio power Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati). There were also a pair of wins over rival St. Xavier, 48-10 back on Oct. 2 and the 31-0 in the semifinals.
The Shamrocks have already piled up 15 state titles this century and 10 of 14 since Class 6A was instituted in 2007.
