Two dominant guards in Jonas Agyeman and Darian Canty are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Thomas Stone Cougars will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Westlake Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. Thomas Stone has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Northern scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, Thomas Stone still came out on top. Thomas Stone strolled past the Patriots with points to spare, taking the game 73-55.
Thomas Stone's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Agyeman, who scored 25 points along with seven assists. Another player making a difference was Ty Woodland, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Westlake was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past the Cavaliers 72-42 on the road. That 30 point margin sets a new team best for Westlake this season.
Melvin Newman had a dynamite game for Westlake, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. It was the first time this season that Newman scored 15 or more points. Darius Kemper was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Thomas Stone's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Westlake, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Thomas Stone hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 61 points per game. However, it's not like Westlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Thomas Stone took their victory against the Wolverines when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 53-32. Does Thomas Stone have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
