The Mountain View Mountain Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Ironwood Ridge by a score of 55-52. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Mountain View has suffered yet this season.
Mountain View's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Holly McLemore, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Kayla Carter who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Carter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Don, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Mountain View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ironwood Ridge only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Ironwood Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Myla Elslager, who scored 21 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elslager has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Walter, who scored 16 points.
Mountain View has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Ironwood Ridge, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.
Mountain View will head out on the road to challenge Cholla at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cholla is on a six-game streak of home losses, Mountain View a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Ironwood Ridge will take on Catalina Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Catalina Foothills is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
