Newman Central Catholic is 9-1 against Kewanee since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Comets will face off against the Boilermakers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Newman Central Catholic has 12 straight victories, Kewanee has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Newman Central Catholic's win against Sherrard wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Comets narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tigers 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Comets' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Garret Matznick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Matznick wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Garet Wolfe, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Princeton hit Kewanee with a eight-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Boilermakers came up short against the Tigers, falling 14-5.
Ace LaFollette made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Logan Peed, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Newman Central Catholic's record is now 18-1. As for Kewanee, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-19.
Kewanee's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Newman Central Catholic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Kewanee, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Newman Central Catholic's sizable advantage in that area, the Boilermakers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Newman Central Catholic got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Kewanee by a conclusive 21-3 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Boilermakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
