The Blackhawk Cougars will take on the New Castle Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Blackhawk has given up an average of 29.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Blackhawk is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against West Allegheny on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars took a blow against the Indians, falling 40-10. The Cougars have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Blackhawk's loss came about despite a quality game from Brayden McCarthy, who rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown.

Even if they lost, Blackhawk's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. In that department, Jameson Feeley was the leader with 2.5. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.1 total tackles per game.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Castle). They blew past Ambridge 56-7 on Friday. Surprisingly, this marked the Hurricanes' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
New Castle found their leader in freshman Marino Graham, who threw for 174 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 111 yards on only 12 carries. Graham's passing game has become a key predictor of the Hurricanes' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.
New Castle's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.3 points over those games. As for Blackhawk, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Blackhawk has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like New Castle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 188.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Blackhawk was dealt a bruising 50-14 loss at the hands of New Castle in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
