Even though the Alhambra Bulldogs have not done well against the Northgate Broncos recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Alhambra escaped with a win against Northgate by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. The victory was all the more spectacular given Alhambra's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Northgate is ranked 206th).
Leading Alhambra to victory were Geo Alber and Samuel Gillaspy. Alber scored 16 points along with seven rebounds, while Gillaspy scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Gillaspy's eighth in a row with at least ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Northgate lost, one person who can't be blamed is Daniel Louie. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. Jake Andjus was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Alhambra's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Northgate, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Alhambra has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Berkeley at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Northgate's road trip will continue as they head out to face Vintage at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Vintage will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
