With a playoff win on the line, Normandy rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They walked away with a 44-35 victory over John Hay. The win was nothing new for the Invaders as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Leading Normandy to victory were Lindsay Meriwether and Ziley Minich. Meriwether dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards, while Minich dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Minich a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christina Dell'Anno, who posted five points.
John Hay's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carly Fisher, who had 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Fisher has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 23 times she's played. Amare Buchanan was another key player, putting up 12 points and six boards.
Normandy's victory bumped their record up to 17-6. As for John Hay, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-7.
Looking ahead, Normandy will square off against Berea-Midpark at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Invaders' defense better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 56.1 points per game this season. John Hay does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
