West Central gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 24-8 win over the Winamac Warriors. For the Trojans, this counts as revenge for the 24-16 victory the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
West Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Connor Huber out in front who rushed for 183 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per carry. Huber's longest rush was for an incredible 84 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Drea Villarreal, who rushed for 85 yards and one score on only 12 carries.
West Central's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Ezra Rodriguez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Central will welcome Culver Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Winamac, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Frontier at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
