After four games on the road, Commerce is heading back home. They will take on the Towns County Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Commerce focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Commerce came up short against Lumpkin County and fell 46-36.
The losing side was boosted by Malay L miitchell, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 10 rebounds. She scored a full 63.9% of Commerce's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Raven Parks was another key contributor, scoring 2 points along with 10 rebounds.
Towns County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season. They blew past Lincoln County 64-26 on the road. The victory was just what Towns County needed coming off of a 68-36 defeat in their prior game.
Towns County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Laura Mauldin out in front who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleigh Beaver, who scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals.
Their wins bumped Commerce to 6-4 and Lumpkin County to 3-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Commerce have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 31% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Towns County, though, as they've only nailed 32% of theirs this season. Given Commerce's sizeable advantage in that area, Towns County will need to find a way to close that gap.
