Edinburg has been on the road for seven straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Edinburg North Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Edinburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Edinburg suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of La Joya by a score of 47-44. Edinburg has not had much luck with La Joya recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Edinburg saw an underclassman step up: Axel Navarro scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Navarro has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Rivera, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Edinburg North didn't have too much trouble with Weslaco at home on Tuesday as they won 58-42. Given Edinburg North's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Weslaco is ranked 833rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edinburg's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 14-8. As for Edinburg North, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.
Edinburg was able to grind out a solid win over Edinburg North in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 61-54. Will Edinburg repeat their success, or does Edinburg North have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
