The Monticello Panthers lost against the Valley Central Vikings back in January of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Monticello took a serious blow against Valley Central, falling 58-24. While losing is never fun, Monticello can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Valley Central is ranked 69th).
Monticello's loss came despite strong showings from Amiah Neails and Morgan Hutchins. Neails scored eight points, while Hutchins scored seven points.
Monticello's defeat was their third straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-3. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for Valley Central, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Goshen Central at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Goshen Central is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Valley Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Wallkill at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
