Softball Recap: Clinton Takes a Loss

Clinton dropped down to 15-11 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Puckett Wolves by a score of 7-5. The Arrows were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Jaelyn Gholar made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cailyn Willis, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Puckett, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Puckett's side, Lila Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. Murphy has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Shivers, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Aubree Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will head out to face off against Germantown at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Arrows' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Puckett, they will head out on the road to square off against Mize at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
