Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Irvington

Irvington made up a huge gap compared to their last game against American, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Irvington blew past American 14-2 on Thursday. Considering the Vikings have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ixayana Vera made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

In other batting news, Irvington got a massive performance out of Diya Vacin, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4. Vacin is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Anika Krishnan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Irvington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American only posted an OBP of .292.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Irvington, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for American, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Irvington will welcome Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for American, they will face off against Mission San Jose at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. American is facing Mission San Jose at the right time seeing as Mission San Jose is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
