The St. Henry Redskins will head out to face off against the Jay County Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
Things were looking good for St. Henry after they put the first runs on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Eaton by a score of 8-7.
Kennedy Wendel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Lefeld, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Jay County is still undefeated this season after their match against Fort Recovery on Saturday, but Fort Recovery came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Patriots came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Indians. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted against the Indians since April 11, 2017.
Mallory Winner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jay County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brenna Ruble, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base. Ruble is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Jay County's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for St. Henry, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Henry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like Jay County struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Henry might still be hurting after the 20-8 defeat they got from Jay County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
