The Clovis Wildcats had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 53-37 win over Lovington. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Clovis also won the last time the pair played last Tuesday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clovis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kailyn Jefferson, who scored 15 points along with six steals. Jefferson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Zarai Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Lovington's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Malaiya Castro, who scored 11 points along with three steals, and Ashelynn Borunda who scored nine points. Castro hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Clovis is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Lovington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clovis will face off against Goddard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Goddard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Clovis is ranked seventh). As for Lovington, they will head out on the road to challenge Carlsbad at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carlsbad is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
