The Straughn Tigers have the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome the Thomasville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Straughn rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past Southside 45-14 at home. Given Straughn's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Southside is ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Layne Grantham had a dynamite game for Straughn, rushing for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 12 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Barnes, who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Thomasville never let their opponents score on Friday. They really took it to Dadeville for the full four quarters, racking up a 28-0 victory at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Thomasville had established a 21 point advantage.
Straughn has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 11-1 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.0 points per game. As for Thomasville, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.
