Softball Recap: Coalfield Has No Trouble Against King's Academy

Coalfield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against King's Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Coalfield put the hurt on King's Academy with a sharp 12-1 victory on Thursday. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Olivia Laymance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had over her last nine contests.

At the plate, Coalfield got a massive performance out of Lilly Claire Lowe, who scored four runs while going 2-for-3. Lowe also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gracie Davis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Coalfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games.

Coalfield's win bumped their record up to 10-2-1. As for King's Academy, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Coalfield will face off against Rhea County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for King's Academy, they will square off against First Baptist Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
