The Valmeyer Pirates will take on the Marissa/Coulterville Meteors at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Valmeyer has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Marissa/Coulterville will arrive with eight straight victories.
Valmeyer came up short against Valley Park on Wednesday, falling 16-8. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly eight runs.
Landon Roy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Ripken Voelker was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Marissa/Coulterville made easy work of Valmeyer on Tuesday and carried off a 14-6 win. The Meteors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Landon Sabo looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marissa/Coulterville let Ryne Rhodes and Carter Daugherty run wild. Rhodes went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Daugherty got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Daugherty has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Stewart, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Marissa/Coulterville pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Valmeyer, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Valmeyer has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Marissa/Coulterville struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Valmeyer suffered a grim 14-6 defeat to Marissa/Coulterville in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
