The Oak Glen Golden Bears pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Weir 67-61. While losing is never fun, Oak Glen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while Weir is ranked 65th).
When it comes to explaining why Oak Glen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kami Ward. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Ward scored a full 41% of Oak Glen's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ella Stewart, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Oak Glen were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Oak Glen's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-6. As for Weir, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Glen won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Madonna at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Madonna and Oak Glen are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Weir is on the road again on January 6, 2024 and play against Chartiers-Houston at 11:00 a.m. on January 6, 2024.
