On Thursday, Basis earned a 59-46 win over Wingate. The victory was all the more spectacular given Basis' disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 208th in Arizona, while Wingate is ranked 90th in New Mexico).
It was another big night for Jack Engelthaler, who shot 7-for-12 from deep and dropped a double-double on 35 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was his tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Quiroz, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Basis and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for Wingate, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Basis won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Chinle at 6:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Chinle knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Basis likes a good challenge. Wingate won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Whitehorse at 12:00 p.m. on December 22nd.
