Given Montgomery County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Claxton is ranked 449th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Montgomery County to victory were Amire Banks and Marley Bell. Banks scored 19 points along with six assists and six steals, while Bell dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Bell is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Erin Adams, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Claxton saw an underclassman step up: Jayda Jordan scored 26 points. That was a full 59.1% of Claxton's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Montgomery County's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Claxton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montgomery County will take on Emanuel County Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Montgomery County is facing Emanuel County Institute at the right time seeing as Emanuel County Institute is stuck on a eight-game losing streak. As for Claxton, they will head out on the road to square off against Memorial Day at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
