Prince George's County 3A/2A/1A recap Oct. 16, 2012
Gwynn Park extended the longest winning streak in Prince George's County 3A/2A/1A this week by beating Fairmont Heights, 54-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Yellowjackets.
Potomac was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Wolverines vanquished Largo 14-6 earlier in the week.
Friendly's dynamic duo of Thomas Corbett and RaVon Davis proved tough for Central to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Corbett threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns and Davis had 110 yards receiving. Alameen Murphy helped Friendly's passing attack out by catching two balls for 23 yards.
Amaru Major was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 232 yards as Surrattsville defeated the Falcons. Mareico Greene also contributed to the rushing game with 23 yards on the ground.
Avery Coles made the biggest impact on defense this week as Forestville Military Academy fell to Douglass. The 6-foot-0 defensive end racked up one sack.
6-foot-2 quarterback Devin Butler of the Eagles is the league leader in passing yards this season with 748. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, the Knights' Marcel Joly has rushed for 623 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jourdan Ginyard. The Forestville Military Academy star has 22 catches for 450 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Gwynn Park takes on the Lions. Danny Hayes' team is in first place, while Largo is in fifth place.
The Yellowjackets took down the Hornets 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
