East Carteret is 10-0 against the Seahawks since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The East Carteret Mariners will look to defend their home court against the Southside Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. East Carteret will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 21 more assists than your opponent, a fact East Carteret proved on Tuesday. They strolled past Jones with points to spare, taking the game 68-52. Given East Carteret's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Trojans are ranked 528th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tanzania Locklear continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 26 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Kenliana Dixon was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight assists and six steals.
Meanwhile, Southside can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past Lejeune 42-22. The victory was some much needed relief for Southside as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Tamya Smith and I'Kiriyah Minor were among the main playmakers for Southside as the former scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists and the latter scored 16 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Smith hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Indiah Moore, who scored six points along with two steals.
East Carteret's victory bumped their record up to 18-2. As for Southside, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: East Carteret have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 21.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
