The Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles will square off against the Liberty Raiders at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Woodrow Wilson is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering James Monroe just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Mavericks, falling 10-1.
Woodrow Wilson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Smallwood, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Sherman a 7-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Maddie Cox's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Liberty let Allie Bowles and Katie Mullens run wild. Bowles went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Mullens went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Alyssa Scarbro was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Woodrow Wilson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woodrow Wilson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Woodrow Wilson beat Liberty 8-3 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Flying Eagles repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
