This season hasn't been kind to the Banner County Wildcats, who are still winless after their fourth game. They fell 44-34 to Bayard on Friday. Banner County has struggled against Bayard recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Banner County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nathan McGowan. Despite the final result, he scored 11 points along with 7 steals and 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Olsen, who scored 4 points along with 13 rebounds.
Bayard can attribute much of their success to Sam Ferrero, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds. Ferrero continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Cochran, who scored 8 points.
Banner County's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-4. As for Bayard, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.
Banner County has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Peetz at 12:00 p.m. on December 9th. Peetz presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Banner County in their respective states (Peetz is ranked 72nd in Colorado, while Banner County is ranked 247th in Nebraska). As for Bayard, they will head out on the road to face off against Sidney at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sidney knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Bayard likes a good challenge.
