The Blum Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Avalon Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two weeks ago, Blum got themselves on the board against Three Way, but Three Way never followed suit. They breezed by the at home to the tune of 52-0. Given Blum's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Three Way is ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Avalon humbled Three Way with a 54-6 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-0.
Avalon found their leader in underclassman Josh Novak, who rushed for 192 yards and five touchdowns on only ten carries. Novak is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played. Jake Ozymy was another key contributor, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Blum against Avalon in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 92-44 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Avalon's Colby Ornelas, who rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Blum to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
