Given Pleasant Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Panthers are ranked 338th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gavin Garretson had an outrageously good game as he dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Bussey, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Chico lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rakim Young-Thomas. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Adam Brott, who scored nine points.
Pleasant Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Chico, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pleasant Valley will challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chico, they will head out on the road to square off against the Honkers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Yuba City is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
