The Viewmont Vikings will challenge the Roy Royals at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Viewmont has three straight wins, Roy has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Viewmont's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Woods Cross. Considering the Vikings have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
London Dickerson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ricki Smith, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Karli Dickerson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Viewmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Roy fell victim to Bountiful and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the RedHawks.
Viewmont's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Roy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.
Everything went Viewmont's way against Roy in their previous meeting back in March, as Viewmont made off with a 12-1 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
