The Clermont Northeastern Rockets will face off against the Reading Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clermont Northeastern is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Clermont Northeastern's last matchup with Goshen could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Monday. The Rockets lost 6-0 to the Warriors. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Clermont Northeastern saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Brown, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Reading was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Boone County. Considering the Blue Devils have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Lillie Riedmiller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Androne, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Eliza Schierloh was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Reading kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Reading is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Clermont Northeastern, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
Clermont Northeastern got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2016 against Reading by a conclusive 19-10 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
