Football Recap: Sunlake Piles Up the Points Against Fivay

While Sunlake put up plenty of points on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Fivay. The Seahawks took their contest with ease, bagging a 34-0 victory over the Falcons. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Sunlake found their leader in sophomore Kate Smith, who threw for 112 yards and four touchdowns. Smith's passing game has become a key predictor of the Seahawks' success: the team is undefeated when her passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise. Sunlake's leading receiver Reese Gerhart was Smith's top target yet again, picking up 52 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Sunlake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Miley Falby and Kennedy Schaer.

The win made it two in a row for Sunlake and bumps their season record up to 11-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Fivay, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Sunlake and Fivay are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Seahawks will take on Wesley Chapel at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Fivay, they will square off against Clearwater at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons are facing the Tornadoes at the right time seeing as the Tornadoes are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
