The Watkins Memorial Warriors were the 60-23 winner over the Northridge Vikings when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Watkins Memorial was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 36-35 to Northridge. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Watkins Memorial came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while Northridge is ranked 568th).
Northridge found their leader in underclassman Ava Travis, who scored 25 points along with 7 steals. The game was Travis' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ruby Cermak, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Watkins Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Northridge, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Watkins Memorial will take on Zanesville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Zanesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday. As for Northridge, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Newark Catholic at 7:15 p.m. Newark Catholic is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
