The Horizon Huskies and the Campo Verde Coyotes will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Horizon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Campo Verde will be up against a hot Horizon team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Horizon skirted past Casteel 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Huskies have posted since April 15, 2024.
Kaia Stephens was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
Meanwhile, Campo Verde came into Wednesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victor by an 11-3 margin over Higley on Wednesday. The Coyotes not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st.
Brooklyn Giefski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
On the hitting side, Anna Zehring and Rylan Renowden did most of the damage at the plate: Zehring went 3-for-5 with six RBI, one triple, and one run, while Renowden scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Renowden has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Amaya Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.
Campo Verde was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Campo Verde pushed their record up to 4-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.7 runs. As for Horizon, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Horizon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Campo Verde struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Horizon beat Campo Verde 11-8 when the teams last played on Monday. Will Horizon repeat their success, or does Campo Verde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
