The South Callaway Bulldogs waltzed into their match Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against North Callaway by a score of 73-65. Given South Callaway's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while North Callaway is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sam Pezold, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Pezold scored a full 30.8% of North Callaway's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Isiah Craighead, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
South Callaway's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for North Callaway, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Callaway will take on Tuscumbia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Tuscumbia is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for North Callaway, they will be playing in front of their home fans against New Bloomfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully New Bloomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Thursday.
