Parkdale has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the High Point Eagles will face off at 7:15 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Parkdale pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of DuVal. While losing is never fun, Parkdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Tigers are ranked 91st).
Parkdale's loss came about despite a quality game from Jacob Wilson, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Mark Freeland, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to High Point, who are still winless after their 15th game. The match between them and Laurel wasn't particularly close, with High Point falling 68-51. High Point has not had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ibrahim Turay, who scored 21 points along with four steals. He hasn't dropped below three steals for four straight games. Kadan Solomonraj was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three blocks and two steals.
Parkdale's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for High Point, they dropped their record down to 0-15 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Parkdale have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like High Point struggles in that department as they've made 39.4% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Parkdale strolled past the Eagles when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 59-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Parkdale since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
