Brodie Edwards was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy is undefeated when Edwards posts three or more RBI, but 5-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Ryan Canipe was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Peyton Conley, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Roanoke Valley Christian fell victim to Christian Heritage Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. The EAGLES have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Roanoke Valley Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Bowman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Roanoke Valley Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, their record now sits at 9-6.
Roanoke Valley Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. It's a different story for Roanoke Valley Christian, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's hitters?
